Cristovao Cordeiro gives us “the Book of Container Myths”, where Cristovao reminds us he’s been developing and using containers for years. He has seen many ideas repeatedly being repeated and thus becoming ‘gospel’, whether or not they’re accurate or helpful; this post challenges some of those ‘myths’. Cristovao discusses in detail six myths. before giving us his closing notes and reminds us to ‘challenge our assumptions’, to ‘read the docs’, and more.

LightDM 1.33.0 released

A new version of LightDM has been released under new maintainership. This mostly includes bug fixes that have been waiting for a release. While there are not many new additions, Qt 6 is now supported in the liblightdm-qt library. Those interested in contributing to LightDM are encouraged to become active in development as the project becomes active again.

Ubuntu’s ready for Alberta and Morocco’s time zone changes

Joey Sneddon tells us about various jurisdictions making time changes in relation to daylight savings, and that Ubuntu has updated its tzdata packages so our systems are aware of these changes (all releases including releases with ESM support).

Ubuntu’s turning another system Deb package into a snap

Joey Sneddon informs us that Sergio Costas of Canonical has explained that hwctl will be packaged as snap-only in the future. We’re given some details; including it’ll increase security, and will change for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS too, soon after SRU procedures are complete. Many links are provided of this change.

NVIDIA 610.57.04 Linux Graphics Driver Improves Support for Many Games

Marcus Nestor tell us of the release of NVIDIA 610.57.04 graphics driver for Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris systems. We’re told it fixes bugs reported in a number of (listed) games. Marcus gives some details of the other fixes included, plus a link to read release notes or download the driver.

KDE Plasma 6.7.4 Released with Improved multi-GPU & Wayland Support

Ji m writes about the release of KDE Plasma 6.7.4 which provides bug fixes and improves stability. We’re given details of improvements where multiple GPUs are used and more. We are shown some screenshots so we better understand. We’re told how we can get KDE Plasma 6.7.4, or we can wait for Ubuntu 26.10 later this year. Links are provided.

Mesa 26.2 Graphics Stack Released with Vulkan and OpenGL Driver Improvements

Bobby Borisov writes about Mesa 26.2 and gives us some details on improvements we’ll find in the release. We’re told of “work on AMD’s RadeonSI and RADV drivers, Intel’s Iris and ANV implementations, the NVK Vulkan driver for NVIDIA hardware”, and more. Bobby gives some details of how it may help us, and tells us that some limitations still exist, plus provides a link to the announcement should we need more details.

GNOME 50.4 Brings GDM Security Fixes and Better Display Handling

Bobby Borisov tells us of the release of GNOME 50.4 by the GNOME Project, and gives us some details of “several noteworthy security changes”. We’re given details of some changes, including GDM 50.2 which has a autologin bypass issue resolved, told of some hardening with password handling, that CVE-2026-15588 is fixed, and more. Ubuntu Touch update brings printing, notch support & a modern browser

Joey Sneddon informs us of an update to Ubuntu Touch which gives Notch support and more. We’re given details of Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 and what’s included, which ranges from updated chromium, easier installs of Widevine DRM, and more. We’re also warned that not every device running Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.3 can upgrade, as there is an increased system storage requirement.
